BREAKING| Hugo Broos Announces Bafana 23 Man Squad

Hugo Broos, coach of Bafana Bafana (South Africa national football team), has announced the preliminary squad for the upcoming match against Morocco, which will be the final qualifier for the AFCON 2023 tournament. The squad consists of 34 players but will eventually be cut down to 23 players next month . The team will face Morocco at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

The initial squad includes several new inclusions, such as Iqraam Rayners and Given Msimango, who will join the Kaizer Chiefs. Kobamelo Kodisang and Njabulo Blom were also part of the group. However, there have been some surprises too, in Lyle Foster’s absence from Burnley with no explanation provided so far.

The preliminary squad is a mix of local and overseas based players, and a reduced pre-camp will take place from May 31 to June 7. South Africa and Morocco have already secured their places at the AFCON 2022 tournament in Ivory Coast by winning their previous qualifiers against Liberia and Bafana Bafana.

Bafana Bafana’s squad for the Morocco game includes goalkeepers Ronwen Williams, Veli Mothwa, Ricardo Goss and Melusi Buthelezi. The defenders chosen were Nyiko Mobbie, Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena, Given Msimango, Innocent Maela, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Siyanda Xulu, Taariq Fielies, Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Mothobi Mvala.

The squad consists of Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas, Njabulo Blom, Grant Margeman, Miguel Timm, Sphelele Mkhulise, Luke Le Roux, Themba Zwane and Thapelo Maseko. Attack options consist of Monnapule Saleng, Zakhele Lepasa, Cassius Mailula, Kobamelo Kodisang, Khanyisa Mayo, Mihlali Mayambela, Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Percy Tau, Pule Mmodi and Iqraam Rayners.

This squad will undergo further evaluation and selection before a final team of 23 players is selected for the game against Morocco.
