The First Club To Get More Than 10 EPL Assists From Defenders In 2022/23 Season

Defenders are meant to prevent opponents from making attempts at goal. However, some defenders go further to initiate or even score goals. In the 2022/23 Premier League (EPL) season, only one club got more than ten assists from defenders ahead of match day 31. Let’s see how it happened.

The only Premiership team with more than ten goals so far is Liverpool. The three defenders from the Merseyside club have scored 13 goals between them this season. The one with the highest tally of the three is Andrew Robertson, a Scottish player. The 29-year-old has provided six assists for the club in England’s top flight this season.

The left back made the pass which VVD scored in the 45th minute against Bournemouth on match day 4. It was also the Scotland international who provided the cross which earned Liverpool an equalizer against Leeds on 29 October 2022. Robertson scored two assists during The Reds hosted Southampton on match day 16. His crosses in the 6th and 42nd minutes gave Liverpool goals from Firmino and Nunez respectively. The other two assists came against Aston Villa and Manchester United in matchdays 17 and 26.

Konstantinos Tsimikas, another left-back, is next on the list. The Greek defender has three EPL assists this season. Two of those occurred on 27 August 2022 when the Reds beat Bournemouth 9-0. Interestingly, he was brought into the match for Robertson 9 minutes after the hour. The Greek international confirmed his substitution in the 80th minute when he set up Fábio Carvalho to score. He also received a corner which Luis Díaz headed into the net 5 minutes later. The Greece international added to his assist tally in matchdays 12 and 7.

The third player in this category is Trent Alexander-Arnold, a right back. The England defender has been credited with three assists ahead of Week 31. Unlike the other two full-backs above, the Englishman has no EPL assists this season until the start of 2023. The first came on 2 January when he made a cross which was headed in by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He also got one each on match days 24 and 30. It should be noted that TAA is the first Liverpool player to create more than fifty chances in the premiership this season.
