A young woman, 17 years old, was shot and died on her way home from school in eNtshawini, KwaDukuza; he was apparently targeted because he testified as a witness in the November murder case of his mother.

On Tuesday, Rethabile Mashile, a 17-year-old grade 8 student at Luthuli Middle School, was ambushed and shot dead by unknown assailants. The suspect, claimed the source, was seen outside the school all the time.

They couldn’t believe the shooting of a girl’s mother in November and her subsequent role as a related court witness, according to an unnamed family member. Despite too much crime in their neighborhood, family members say they still don’t understand what caused Rethabile’s death.

Thenjiswa Ngcobo, spokesperson for KwaZulu Natal police, stated that officers in KwaDukuza were investigating the shooting death of a little girl who was on her way home from school.
